Indiestad presents: Zonneprijs, the talent competition with the newest and most sought-after artists of the moment. During eight preliminary rounds in Zonnehuis they compete for a place in the final in Paradiso. The preliminary rounds will take place every first Thursday of the month until May 2024. The final will take place in the Great Hall of Paradiso in June 2024. The winner of Zonneprijs wins 10,000 euros.
It is not only interesting for musicians: as a concert visitor you can enjoy five performances this evening by the most promising musical acts of the moment, carefully selected by Indiestad. Be the first to discover them during Zonneprijs; you’ll probably hear from them a lot more often.

Modern alt-pop, a passion for psychedelic music and soul from the ’60s and yearning vocals, that is The Indien in a nutshell. Founded in The Hague by frontwoman Rianne Walther and guitarist Casper Talsma, the band has achieved a growing status in the Netherlands since the release of EPs ‘Cologne’ and ‘Hiatus’. Their success was also noticed by the British label Disturbing London, resulting in a recording contract. The Indien has now found the time to introduce themselves to the British public with performances at NME’s Cinejam (curated by Bastille’s Dan Smith) and sharing the stage with Tinie Tempah. The band’s new single will be released in September, which will also be heard in the new Netflix film ‘Happy Ending’. You can buy your tickets here.

Singer Pauline Scanlon, together with The Whileaways from Galway, is breathing new life into the Bird On The Wire project. Following previous successful tours in the UK and Ireland, this collaborative interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s creations promises a unique exploration of Cohen’s iconic music and lyrics. The special ensemble, with talents such as Will Merrigan, Dave Clancy, Matthew Berrill and Eamon Murray, impresses with lush string arrangements. A shining example of the Irish music scene, Pauline Scanlon brings her signature delicate intensity to the project, captivating audiences worldwide with her solo work and collaborations. Kristin Hersh is an American singer-songwriter and frontwoman of the alternative rock band Throwing Muses. In addition to her work with the band, Hersh has built a successful solo career, with albums such as 1994’s ‘Hips and Makers’ and most recently ‘Clear Pond Road’. In contrast to her work for Throwing Muses, as a solo artist she takes a more folk path and is more subdued and vulnerable. She sings candidly about her experiences with bipolar disorder, death and love. You can buy your tickets here.

The BinnenhofstraatFair will take place on Sunday, April 14 in the authentic Floradorp neighborhood in Amsterdam Noord. This annual flea market is organized by and for the local residents, but is also open to anyone who enjoys browsing and socializing. To get to the BinnenhofstraatFair, you can take the Buiksloterwegveer ferry from the central station. From there, you can bike through the Noorderpark and ride down Wingerdweg, going under the tunnel to reach Binnenstraat.
